Evgenia Gostrer (born June 25, 1981 in Voronezh, Russia) is a German filmmaker, director, animator and artist. She has made numerous short animated films which have won prizes at festivals across the world. She works with clay, clay on glass and other analogue materials and combines these into films that are often narrative and documentary based. Gostrer until September 2022 was a Senior Lecturer at Kingston University on the BA Illustration Animation and now teaches and lives in Berlin.
Evgenia Gostrer and her family emigrated from Russia to Germany in 1996 as jewish refugees. Evgenia has never returned to Russia. She studied Communication Design in Munich, Animation Directing in Kassel and completed an equivalent of a PhD-in-Practice-programme in Potsdam. Gostrer first worked in design agencies in Munich before turning to animation and teaching full time. She was married to the historian Jan Plamper, who died in 2023.
